Arrival Guide
Oran Ahmed Ben Bella Airport, also known by its former name Es Sénia Airport, is the main gateway to western Algeria. The second-largest airport in the country after Algiers, it welcomes over two million passengers each year, mostly members of the diaspora returning home. Here is a complete guide: terminals, distance, parking, on-site services, and especially how to get to the city once you've collected your luggage.
Where is Oran Airport and how to get out?
Oran Ahmed Ben Bella Airport (code ORN) is located 12 km south of the city center, in the municipality of Es Sénia, which is a 10 to 20 minute drive. There are four ways to leave the airport: official taxi, a ride-hailing app, a pre-booked private transfer, or a rental car delivered directly to the terminal.

Leaving Oran Airport: the four options compared
This is the real question on arrival day. Here are the four ways to get to Oran from the terminal, with what each really costs and for whom it is suitable.
🚕 Official taxi
Duration: 15 to 25 min
Indicative budget: 1,500 to 2,500 DZD, or about 10 to 17 €
Available at all hours in front of the terminal. The price is negotiated before getting in, there is no systematic meter.
📱 Ride-hailing app
Duration: 15 to 25 min, plus waiting time
Indicative budget: 800 to 1,500 DZD, or about 5 to 10 €
The cheapest option, but it requires a data connection after landing and the availability decreases late at night.
✈️ Private transfer
Duration: 15 to 25 min, no waiting
Indicative budget: fixed rate confirmed before your arrival
The driver tracks your flight, waits for you at the terminal with a sign bearing the group's name, and drops you off at your accommodation.
🚗 Rental car
Duration: keys handed over at the terminal
Indicative budget: from 20 € per day, or about 2,500 DZD
The cost-effective choice for three or more journeys per day, and the only one that allows you to freely go to Aïn El Turck or Bousfer whenever you want.
Indicative ranges for guidance only, subject to variation depending on time, season, and exact destination in Oran.
If you're staying for several days and plan to move around, compare honestly: three ride-hailing trips a day quickly reach the price of a day's rental. Our car rental in Oran offers delivery to the terminal, keys in hand when you exit baggage claim. If you prefer not to drive on arrival day, our Oran airport transfer remains the most relaxing solution after a flight.
Buses and trams are also available, and remain the most economical options. They are detailed further down in the section on access from the city center.
Your first thirty minutes after landing
Terminal 1 is new and well-organized, but the sequence of events always remains the same. Here's the actual order of operations so you don't have to search for anything.
- Passport control: allow between ten minutes and three quarters of an hour depending on the number of flights that have arrived at the same time, highly variable in July and August.
- Baggage claim: carousels are indicated by flight number. In high season, family suitcases are numerous and delivery can take time.
- Currency exchange: bank counters operate at the official rate. Many diaspora travelers prefer to exchange a small amount on arrival for the first journey, then exchange more in the city.
- Local SIM card: Algerian operators are represented in the public area. Have your passport ready, as SIM card registration is mandatory.
- Exit: the arrival area leads directly to the forecourt, where taxis and private drivers await.

| Former name | Oran Es Sénia Airport |
| IATA code | ORN |

The airport takes its current name from Ahmed Ben Bella, born on December 25, 1916, in Maghnia near Tlemcen, an independence fighter and the first president of the Algerian Republic from 1963 to 1965. The official renaming was decreed on April 16, 2012.
The two terminals: international and domestic
Oran Airport operates with two distinct terminals, which you should identify clearly before your journey.
Terminal 1: international flights
Opened on June 23, 2022, Terminal 1 covers 41,000 m² with an initial capacity of 3.5 million passengers per year, expandable to 6 million. It features six jet bridges, a roof equipped with over 4,000 photovoltaic panels, and a rainwater harvesting system. This is where all international flights (France, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Gulf) are processed.
Terminal 2: domestic flights
Terminal 2, the former international terminal, now handles domestic flights (Algiers, Constantine, Annaba, Ouargla, Béchar), with a capacity of 900,000 passengers per year.
💡 Karim's tip
Always check your ticket to see if you are arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2: they are two distinct buildings on the site, and getting it wrong will waste precious time on the day of your flight, especially during the busy summer period. And if someone is picking you up, give them the terminal number along with the flight number, not just the landing time.
Distance and access from the city center
The airport is located approximately 12 km south of Oran city center, just a 10 to 20-minute drive depending on traffic. It is served by the RN4, RN2, CW35, and the A1 East-West motorway, making it a very easily accessible airport compared to other regional airports.
- By car: direct and well-indicated route from the city center, roads generally well-maintained
- By tram: the Oran tramway terminus is at the "Sénia Université" station, connected to the airport by a shuttle service
- By bus: ETO Oran buses operate from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and serve several city districts
- With a driver or rented vehicle: the most comfortable solution to arrive directly at your accommodation without transfers
Parking and car parks
Terminal 1 features a three-story covered parking lot, with a capacity of 1,200 vehicles, as well as an outdoor parking lot of similar capacity. This is sufficient to handle the peak traffic during the summer, when thousands of families come to drop off or pick up their relatives.
On-site services
Terminal 1, as a recent infrastructure, offers a modern level of service:
- Shops and restaurants in both the boarding and public areas
- Check-in counters generally well-organized, with options for online check-in or self-service kiosks to save time
- Honorary lounge for the reception of high-profile personalities
- Freight area of 4,000 m², with a capacity of 15,000 tons per year
- Control tower received in 2018, replacing the old tower
For an international flight, it is recommended to arrive at least three hours in advance, as security checks are thorough but generally smooth.
Arriving from France, Belgium, or Canada
The majority of Terminal 1 passengers are diaspora families. Here are some pointers depending on your departure point.
- From Paris, Lyon, or Marseille: the most numerous connections, concentrated late in the day. Many families land after 9 PM, precisely when ride-hailing services become scarcer and taxi fares climb.
- From Brussels: flights are less frequent, often with a layover. Allow extra time if you need to continue your journey to Aïn El Turck or Mostaganem that same evening.
- From Montreal or London: arrival almost always involves Algiers or a European stopover. After fifteen hours of travel with children and luggage, negotiating a taxi on the forecourt is the last thing you want to do.
In all these cases, booking in advance changes the nature of your arrival: someone is waiting for you, the price is known, and you go directly to your accommodation. The same applies to cars, which we deliver to the terminal rather than having you look for an agency.
A little history
The airport site, then called La Sénia, served as a military airfield from World War II, used by the French Air Force and then by Vichy forces. It was one of the main objectives of Operation Torch during the Allied landing in Oran in November 1942. A new 3,000 m runway has been operational since February 2009, and the site has been progressively modernized until the opening of the new Terminal 1 in 2022, completely transforming the airport's reception capacity.
Reach or leave the airport with complete peace of mind
To avoid the logistics of the bus, tram, or an unpredictable taxi after your flight, our private shuttle from Ahmed Ben Bella picks you up directly at Terminal 1 or 2, with real-time flight tracking in case of delay.
