The two terminals: international and domestic
Oran Airport operates with two distinct terminals, which you should identify before your journey.
Terminal 1: international flights
Inaugurated on June 23, 2022, Terminal 1 covers 41,000 m² with an initial capacity of 3.5 million passengers per year, expandable to 6 million. It features six telescopic jet bridges, a roof equipped with over 4,000 photovoltaic panels, and a rainwater harvesting system. This is where all international flights (France, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Gulf) are processed.
Terminal 2: domestic flights
Terminal 2, the former international terminal, now handles domestic flights (Algiers, Constantine, Annaba, Ouargla, Béchar), with a capacity of 900,000 passengers per year.
💡 Karim's advice
Always check your ticket to see if you are arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2: these are two distinct buildings on the site, and making a mistake can waste valuable time on your flight day, especially during the peak summer period when traffic is heavy.
Distance and access from the city center
The airport is located approximately 12 km south of Oran city center, just a 10 to 20-minute drive depending on traffic. It is served by the RN4, RN2, CW35, and the A1 East-West motorway, making it a very easily accessible airport compared to other regional airports.
- By car: direct and well-signposted route from the city center, roads generally well-maintained
- By tramway: the Oran tramway terminus is at the "Sénia Université" station, connected to the airport by a shuttle
- By bus: ETO Oran buses run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and serve several districts of the city
- With a chauffeur or rented vehicle: the most comfortable solution to get directly to your accommodation without transfers
Parking
Terminal 1 has a three-story covered car park with a capacity of 1,200 vehicles, as well as an outdoor car park of similar capacity. Enough to easily absorb peak summer traffic, when thousands of families come to drop off or pick up their loved ones.
On-site services
Terminal 1, as a recent infrastructure, offers a modern level of service:
- Shops and restaurants in both the boarding and public areas
- Check-in counters generally well-organized, with options for online or self-service kiosk check-in to save time
- VIP lounge for receiving high-ranking personalities
- Cargo area of 4,000 m², with a capacity of 15,000 tons per year
- Control tower commissioned in 2018, replacing the old tower
For an international flight, it is recommended to arrive at least three hours in advance, as security checks are rigorous but generally smooth.
A little history
The airport site, then called La Sénia, served as a military airfield from World War II, used by the French Air Force and then by Vichy forces. It was one of the main objectives of Operation Torch during the Allied landings in Oran on November 9, 1942. A new 3,000 m runway has been operational since February 2009, and the site was gradually modernized until the opening of the new Terminal 1 in 2022, completely transforming the airport's capacity.
